control pod orientation
battery advice
ewan's control pod can be found in his tummy, firstly remove the control pod from the Velcro pocket in ewan’s tummy and charge the control pod using the USB cable provided, NEVER charge it inside ewan, DO NOT use lightning or fast charge cables as these are not supported. The USB cable is short to comply with BS EN 71-1/2/3/9 for your child’s safety. When fully charged the charge indicator light will turn GREEN. While charging it will be RED. When low on charge it will FLASH RED when any of the buttons are pressed. (NEVER charge the control pod inside ewan’s plush).
If ewan behaves in any of the following ways, his pod battery may need charging:
• Charge indicator light flashing RED.
• Sounds play for a short period of time or suddenly cut out.
• Sounds are distorted.
• Sounds have become quiet, even though switched to loud setting.
• Light doesn’t glow, even though it is switched on.
• Light starts to flash on and off.
• The sensitivity of the smartCRY sensor reduces or completely fails to work.
When charging battery, please follow the same procedure outlined in the set up. Make sure you remove the pod from the charger when it is fully charged, this is indicated by the charge indicator light turning green.
• NEVER charge the control pod inside ewan.
• ONLY use the USB charge cable provided. DO NOT use lightning/fast charge cables as they are not supported.
• The USB cable is short to comply with BS EN 71-1/2/3/9 safety standards for your child’s safety.
secure the pod
Grab your pod and open ewan's tummy, locate the two velcro straps. Secure the control pod into ewan’s tummy pocket using the thin Velcro strap through the tether hole on the bottom of the pod: the thin Velcro strap is sewn inside ewan’s tummy pocket and is located near his rear. Position the control pod into the tummy pocket, making sure that the moon button faces outwards and the light probe points towards the chest. Fasten ewan's tummy.
4turn ON/OFF
ewan Deluxe has single button activation, it is moon shape and found on the top of the control pod. Press this to switch ewan ON. The moon button can be pressed through ewan’s tummy making it easy for your child to self soothe. This same button is pushed to turn OFF the sounds at any time without the need to remove the pod from ewan’s tummy.
NOTE: If your pod re-activates you may have your cry sensor active. Please see point 4 for help to deactivate the cry sensor.
5using the smartCRY sensor
what is the smartCry sensor?
ewan features an intelligent smartCRY sensor, which is cleverly designed to listen out for noise and automatically activate when baby cries, helping to resettle them back to sleep. ewan Deluxe is programmed to analyse all surrounding noises, listening out specifically for crying or sudden loud/sharp sounds which may disturb your baby. If this occurs, he will automatically activate and play your chosen soothing sound and light setting for your chosen playback period, helping to resettle your restless baby. ewan will then become silent and start listening again, activating whenever he hears your baby cry, ensuring that your little one (and you!) have a peaceful sleep. ewan Deluxe works best when he’s placed less than 1 metre from your baby. The sensitivity of the smartCRY sensor may be reduced for a minute or so following a battery charge, while it readjusts. If continuous Playback Period is selected, smartCRY sensor is not required and should be set to OFF.
activating the smartCry sensor
To activate the smartCRY sensor, press the Cry Sensor button on the side of the pod. 1 beep will sound to indicate that the smartCRY sensor has been turned ON. Every time ewan hears your baby cry he will activate and play your chosen sound and light setting for your chosen playback period. He will then continue listening. To activate the sounds & light manually, press and release the moon button. Sounds & light play for your chosen playback period and then fade out and switch OFF. The smartCRY sensor will still be activated and ewan will continue to listen. To turn OFF the sounds, press the moon button while sounds are playing and the sounds will switch OFF. The smartCRY sensor will still be activated and ewan will continue listening. ewan’s smartCRY sensor will remain ON until it is switched OFF. To turn OFF the smartCRY sensor, press the Cry Sensor button on the side of the pod: 3 beeps will sound to indicate that the smartCRY sensor has been turned OFF. Do not use Cry Sensor with continuous playback.
how the smartCry sensor works
de-activating the smartCry sensor/normal mode
To activate the sounds in normal mode, press and release the moon button through ewan’s tummy. Sounds play for your chosen playback period. At the end of the period, they will fade out and the pod will automatically turn OFF. To turn OFF the sounds before the playback period has elapsed, press the moon button while the sounds are playing and the sounds will turn OFF. If the light is switched ON, it will automatically glow for the playback period, when the sounds are activated and will then fade OFF together with the sounds. If the moon button is pressed to turn OFF the sounds, the light will also turn OFF. If the light is switched OFF it will not activate with the sounds. Light can be used independently if volume is set to 0%.
6adjusting volume & light
Set your VOLUME (100% / 80% / 60% /40% / 20% / 0%) and LIGHT (Solid 100% / Solid 50% / OFF) preferences by pushing the small buttons located on the side of the control pod. If light is set to ON, it will automatically glow for the selected Playback Period when the sounds are activated. Light can also be used independently of sounds by setting volume to 0%. To activate the light and sound playback press the large moon button on the top of the pod. Press this again to deactivate. If the moon button doesn’t activate the pod, check the Child Lock - this disables ALL buttons and is located on the bottom of the pod. If Child Lock is OFF and the pod still doesn’t activate, it needs to be charged. If the light comes on with no sound after pressing the large moon button, then turn the volume UP.
7change the sounds
Set your SOUND (10 sounds) preference by pushing the small buttons located on the side of the control pod. Cycle through all 10 of ewan’s sounds (5 on each button) until you find the sound that your baby prefers.
8playback period
Set your PLAYBACK PERIOD (20mins / 40mins / 80mins / Continuous) preference by pushing the small buttons located on the side of the control pod.
9where to put ewan
You can suspend ewan securely from your cot, pushchair or car seat using his Velcro tail. DO NOT place directly over baby's head. Alternatively place ewan next to your baby's cot or moses basket.
10child lock
The child lock disables ALL buttons and is located on the bottom of the pod.
inserting batteries
You will need:
• A Cross-head Screwdriver
• 3 x AA Batteries (LR06 1.5V max)
Firstly, remove the control pod from the Velcro pocket in ewan’s tummy. Insert 3 x AA 1.5V batteries (NOT INCLUDED) into the battery compartment located on the back of the control pod. Unscrew the lid screw with a cross-head screwdriver, insert the batteries observing the correct polarity ( + / - ) as illustrated or indicated on the inside of the battery compartment, then replace the lid and screw to secure in place. Do not over-tighten screw. Reinsert the control pod securely into ewan's Velcro tummy pocket, ensuring you seal the Velcro.
TOP TIP: We highly recommend using re-chargeable batteries with ewan Deluxe. Asides from being more economical, they are more eco-friendly.
2secure the pod
Grab your pod and open ewan's tummy, locate the two velcro straps. Secure the straps around the pod and insert the pod into ewan's tummy. Fasten ewan's tummy.
3turn ON/OFF
ewan Deluxe has single button activation. Press this to switch ewan ON. The large button can be pressed through ewan’s tummy making it easy for your child to self soothe. This same button is pushed to turn OFF the sounds at any time without the need to remove the pod from ewan’s tummy.
NOTE: If your pod re-activates you may have your cry sensor active. Please see point 4 for help to deactivate the cry sensor.
4using the smartCRY sensor
Firstly, you'll be pleased to know any one of ewan’s sounds can be selected to play in both normal and smartCRY mode. Press and hold the main button on the pod for 3 seconds, you should hear 1 single beep - this signifies that the sensor is switched ON and ewan is listening. The smartCRY Sensor will listen out for your baby for 4 hours. If your baby stirs then ewan will activate your chosen sound. Once your baby has settled he will listen again for another 4 hours and so on. If your baby does not stir within 4 hours, the smartCRY Sensor will deactivate. To de-activate the smartCRY Sensor, press and hold the button again for 3 seconds, this time you should hear 3 simultaneous beeps - this signifies that the sensor is switched off and ewan is NOT listening.
5adjusting volume & light
Press and hold the main button on the pod to activate. Turn the Light ON/OFF by pressing the left button. Make the Volume QUIET/LOUD by pressing the right button.
6change the sounds
While activated/sound is playing double tap the main button to cycle through: harp melody, shush, rainfall, womb and vacuum cleaner sounds.
7where to put ewan
