"Does my baby's mattress need to be waterproof?"

The answer to this is yes, it needs to be waterproof, flat and firm.

Fully waterproof mattress protection is recommended, rather than just being water resistant.

Now some mattresses have a PVC layer which is waterproof that you will be able to wipe down. Now if your mattress doesn't have this you can buy a waterproof protector.

Research has shown that a mattress fitted with a waterproof cover carries a lower chance of sudden infant death, then one with out.

A mattress cover is also great for keeping the mattress clean and dry, and preventing it harbouring any germs or bacteria.
